Do you know when and where the 10-cent superfecta was first introduced?

On Friday, September 3, 2004, Hinsdale Greyhound Park in New Hampshire was the first to offer a 10-cent minimum superfecta bet.  This was implemented as an attempt to compete with  slot machines. Once the only game in town, they watched their attendance and handle steadily decline as people started flocking to nearby casinos to play slot machines.  Since their superfecta payouts were some of the largest in greyhound racing, this new 10-cent minimum would give the fans a chance to win $100's or even $1,000's by betting dimes just like the slot machines.

They were hoping to stir up some interest among the casual race fans and to attract new people to the racetrack. On that first day it was only offered on a few races, but the fans embraced this new bet right away.  Before the end of the day, they were clamoring for 10-cent superfectas in every race!  The 10-cent superfecta was a hit and it wasnt long before it spread to other grey- hound racetracks.

On February 17, 2005, Sam Houston Park in Texas became the first thoroughbred racetrack to offer the 10-cent superfecta.  Originally implemented as an experiment to attract newcomers to the racetrack, they were surprised at how much the regulars loved it.  It wasnt long before the 10-cent superfecta was being offered at Hawthorne, Keeneland and Lone Star and the list has been growing steadily ever since with most recently Churchill Downs.
